Snoopy CWP Bureaucrat
So, like a good law abiding citizen I went to get my concealed weapons permit. In this particularly State a certificate from a gun safety class is required which I finished on Sat. Because of so much demand, the office in the town I am in has no openings until May 10th. For example, in the last 6 months there have been applications for CWPs by about 1.5% of the total State population. The next closest, 2 hours away, is also backed up until May 10th. Yesterday I called the next closest, 3 hours away, and surprisingly they had an opening for today so I booked it, drove over, showed up 30 minutes early and it looked like I was the only person who had an appointment today so we got straight to work and I got in all my paperwork for my permit turned in.
Because I had just finished some business and went straight to the appointment I was wearing my white shirt, tie and Rolex so I looked nice and respectable. While filing out the forms and taking my paw prints the friendly bureaucrat was making some small talk. She noticed from my identification, a State ID was required as I tried to use a passport which does not have an address on it, I was from so far away and made a comment about how their office was the only one not completely packed and how they were much more 'efficient' than the usual government building, which I agreed to and told her this office sure puts the DMB and Post Office to shame. She made another very interesting comment about how she had told someone she had worked in the office for 9 months but had worked for the government for 20+ years and how "that is not such a good thing to admit anymore". Being one who handles criminal defense work and not wanting to provide any potentially problematic statements, I just said, "Well, it is what it is." and changed the subject to be about my family members who are in the armed service, chief of police, etc. and what a great job they do. So, it makes me wonder whether this little friendly bureaucrat was baiting me to whine about the government. Has anyone else noticed anything odd, like weird questioning or unreasonable delays after the application has been submitted, etc. when getting their licenses or permits related to firearms? |
